The Bentley Continental Supersports |
|
The Continental Supersports is the fastest and most powerful Bentley ever. It is the extreme Bentley, a muscular two-seater that delivers supercar performance and a highly focused driving experience.
The Supersports is also the first Bentley capable of running on both petrol (gasoline) and biofuel, pioneering the use of FlexFuel technology in the luxury sector. This represents stage one of the company’s commitment to make its complete model range compatible with renewable fuels by 2012.
Available worldwide from autumn 2009, the Continental Supersports will be FlexFuel compatible in the majority of markets from launch with North American cars offering the capability by summer 2010, following regulatory approval.
The Continental Supersports began as an ‘under the radar’ project exploring the possibilities of weight reduction on the Continental GT but with more power and torque. A largely experimental process crystallised over a period of 24 months into an official new car programme, driven by the passion and enthusiasm of a small group of Bentley engineers and designers.
The results are dramatic. With 630PS (621 bhp) and new ‘Quickshift’ transmission that halves shift times, the Supersports sets new performance benchmarks for Bentley. It accelerates from 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds (0-100 km/h in 3.9 seconds) onto a top speed of 204 mph (329 km/h).
The Supersports is further distinguished from its Continental coupe stable mates by a unique dark-smoked steel finish to all exterior ‘brightware’, including front grilles, lamp bezels, window surrounds and wheels. A complex ‘Physical Vapour Deposition’ process is applied to all stainless steel components to give a lustrous and highly durable finish. A car industry first, this process is normally used as a coating on industrial tools,
watches and even hip replacement joints.
Fully embracing the extreme spirit of the Supersports, Bentley’s interior designers have created a unique ambience. The cockpit represents a dramatic re-interpretation of Bentley interior design in which carbon fibre and Alcantara™ not only convey a sporting and contemporary style but also reduce weight.
The Supersports is a strict two-seater featuring all-new lightweight sports seats with carbon fibre clamshell rear panels. In the rear compartment, the seats are replaced by a stowage deck with a carbon fibre luggage retaining beam.
The new interior also provides a showcase for the skills of Bentley’s craftsmen and women at the company’s factory in Crewe, England. Signature premium grade leather and brightware are complemented by carbon fibre panels, replacing traditional wood veneers.
The ‘Supersports’ name is inspired by the original two-seater 3-litre Supersports model introduced in 1925, itself an evolution of the 3-litre Speed. The lightweight, 85 bhp Supersports was the first production Bentley to reach 100 mph and was also renowned for the application of Le Mans-winning race technology.

The magic of the Moulin Rouge, the brilliance of the Eiffel Tower, the city that makes everyone fall in love! Rachael Worby and the Pasadena POPS celebrated an evening devoted to Paris with cabaret star Karen Akers performing the legendary songs of Edith Piaf; Gershwin’s American in Paris, Porter’s famed I Love Paris, and French composer Saint Saëns’s witty Carnival of the Animals with thrilling hip hop poet Steve Connell and pianists Yangyue Fang and Hunter Noack on July 17 & 18 at Descanso Gardens at 7:30 p.m.
 Guests enjoyed a picnic under the night sky as the Pasadena POPS serenaded them with a symphony concert devoted to Paris! Considered one of Gershwin’s best known works, American in Paris evokes the sights and energy of Paris in the 20’s - a dizzying whirlwind of color and rhapsodic journey portraying the experiences of a visitor in Paris. Explore Paris by day – the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, the bustling city streets complete with taxi horns, then settle into Paris by night as the Orchestra brought out the “blues” and evoked the revelry of a Parisian jazz club. Gershwin’s American in Paris also served as the musical backdrop to the 1951 musical starring Gene Kelly – it is as popular today as ever.
A special highlight of the concert included a riveting tribute to the passion of Edith Piaf through the songs that made her a legend - La Vie En Rose, Padam, Padam, Chanson, and more beloved favorites performed by special guest vocalist Karen Akers. The Los Angeles Herald-Examiner, hailed “It was a great voice, an instrument with the power of Streisand's, the dark passion of Piaf's and the lean irony of Dietrich's, but a voice uniquely her own, because it's coupled with an intelligence that created moments of riveting theatricality.”

On Thursday, July 23rd, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Pasadena and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars North America (RRMCMA) invited guests to an exclusive event at the new Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes.
Terranea Resort is the newest and most magnificent phenomenon to unfold atop of the oceanfront cliffs of Palos Verdes. It is a luxurious mosaic of the region’s most picturesque natural setting and unique historical character. The first and only luxury oceanfront resort on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, Terranea quietly reigns over a sprawling natural terrain of unmitigated beauty.

During the day, the guests had the opportunity to explore and test-drive each model of the Rolls-Royce Phantom family along the scenic California coastline, with a special emphasis on the dynamic Phantom Coupé.
They also enjoyed the afternoon playing a round of golf at The Links at Terranea Resort, courtesy of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Pasadena. The Links at Terranea offers a dramatic 9-hole, par-three oceanfront golf course, with stunning views of the Pacific and Catalina Island; masterfully routed and integrated with each other and the natural surroundings.

 The Manny Mota International Foundation (MMIF) presented its 5th Annual Manny Mota “Field of Dreams” Charity Golf Tournament on Thursday, July 23rd, 2009 at the La Cañada Flintridge Country Club. As in previous years, this spectacular event once again drew Dodger legends, golf and baseball enthusiasts, and general supporters of the life-changing work of the Manny Mota International Foundation. July 23rd marked Rusnak Audi Westlake and Pasadena’s first year sponsoring the “Field of Dreams” Tournament.
As part of Rusnak Audi Westlake and Pasadena’s multi-faceted sponsorship, its dealerships in Pasadena and Westlake provided a 2009 Audi TT Roadster and a 2009 Audi Q5 as Hole-In-One contest vehicles for the Tournament. The winners of the “Field of Dreams” Tournament attended the 2009 Audi quattro Cup at the Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay, and had a chance at playing in the 2009 Audi quattro Cup World Final in Sydney, Australia in December. Winners were: Team 1-David Duran, Porter Ranch and Jeff Williams, Pasadena; Team 2-Ed Taylor, Simi Valley and Jordan Eugenio, Morena. “We are very excited to support the ‘Field of Dreams’ Tournament and showcase the important humanitarian work of the Manny Mota International Foundation,” said Elizabeth Rusnak Arizmendi, Vice President of Public Relations at Rusnak Auto Group.
The Manny Mota International Foundation began in 1967 as the brainchild of L.A. Dodgers legend and current coach Manny Mota and his wife Margarita. The “Field of Dreams” Tournament, the Mota Foundation’s signature fundraising event, supports local community programs, such as free health fairs, as well as the provision of daily meals, clothing, medical supplies and more to over 300 impoverished children and their families at the Foundation’s Campo de Sueños (Field of Dreams)- its multi-functional facility on the outskirts of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

We start off this month’s mail with a wonderful letter to Andrew Arizmendi:
Dear Andrew Arizmendi (General Manager Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Pasadena),
We were the first couple to check in for the test drive at the Rolls-Royce Drive of Distinction; Liz Rusnak introduced herself to welcome us. We got to chat a bit and conversation took a strange turn from weather, USC Trojan to empty nesters. It was one of those light-bulb moments that I casually mentioned James’ birthday is coming up the next day. It will certainly be a wonderful birthday present Liz suggested pointing her finger at the line of Rolls-Royce's.
Hats off to the professionalism and top-notch salesmanship demonstrated by the Rusnak dealership and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. It’s a lesson I experienced and believed set them apart from the field – they paid such detailed attention down to merely a passing comment made by a potential customer (as we know by now, an unqualified one).
It was surely one memorable birthday James can ever dreamed of. Not only he gets to test drive Rolls-Royce Phantom & Coupe cruising the breathtaking Palos Verdes coastline, enjoy a round of challenging par-three golf, but to sip champagne with scrumptious hors d'oeuvre followed by a delectable wine-pairing dinner with a million dollar view. Most importantly, he gets to do it with his best friends.
